Project Manager – Efland, North Carolina

Summary

The Project Manager will be the primary point of contact for the Director of Operations and the direct point of contact for our Customer in the Efland, NC area. The Project Manager will be responsible for complete oversight of all construction activities in the market. The Project Manager should have 3 years of management experience and 5 years of field supervision or management in the utility construction/hdd industry.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for management of up to 4 direct reports of field supervisors.
  • Responsible for indirect management of up to 50 field level employees.
  • Perform evaluations, terminations, interviewing and hiring employees.
  • Must be able to effectively manage and coordinate all aspects of underground construction projects.
  • Call in new locate tickets for projects.
  • Perform 3 Hour Tickets, Retransmits, and Destroyed Marks on locate tickets.
  • Responsible for managing an active list of company owned and non-company owned equipment.
  • Maintain a rolling inventory log of materials.
  • Oversee time and attendance for employees on each project.
  • Familiar with company credit card policies and expense reporting.
  • Issue weekly toolbox talks to field supervisors.
  • Generate project deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the highest level of customer service daily to ensure customer complaints and client relations are at peak performance at all times.
  • Be able to perform field inspections on a weekly basis to ensure highest level of quality and production.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to operate iPad or similar devices for daily reporting.
  • Must be able to operate a laptop running Windows 11.
  • Microsoft Office Proficient.
  • Google Suite Proficient.
  • Adobe Acrobat Proficient.
  • Adaptable to changing markets, customers and specs.
  • Must be available to travel as required, sometimes up to 50%.
  • 3 years of management experience. ie; Construction Manager, Project Manager, Customer Manager, General Manager, Ops Manager, etc.
  • 5 years of field level experience and supervision or management. ie; Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10/30 certified.
  • Competent Persons trained.
  • CPR/FIRST Aid certified.
  • Bilingual/Spanish language fluency.

Working Conditions

Must be available to work in all weather conditions and temperatures year-round. This is a 50/50 field and office position based out of the Durham, NC area. This position will not be a hybrid/remote position. This position requires time in the office and field within each typical work week. This position also will require some weekend work.

Horizontal Directional Driller/HDD Operator

Summary

The HDD Operator will be expected to operate Ditch Witch directional drills to perform work within fiber optic, underground electrical, natural gas, and water/wastewater projects. The HDD Operator will work directly with the HDD Locator and HDD Laborers to complete assigned tasks and jobs within set deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Operate horizontal directional drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit including fiber optic cable.
  • Operate construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Level earth to final grade specifications.
  • Perform secondary locates with utility locators before each bore to ensure marks are accurate.
  • Report inaccuracies to the supervisor.
  • Report on near-miss incidents.
  • Perform vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities’ underground facilities.
  • Level earth to final grade specifications.
  • Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
  • Perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.
  • Read utility locates and coordinate daylighting of facilities.
  • Ensure all applicable permits and locates are complete and on-site.
  • Set up and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
  • Lead team in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisors.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to operate iPad or similar devices for daily reporting.
  • Must be available to travel as required, sometimes up to 80%.
  • 3-5 years of verifiable experience running directional drills and related equipment.
  • 3-5 years of verifiable experience running underground construction crews.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Competent Persons trained.
  • CPR/FIRST Aid certified.

Summary

The HDD Locator will be expected to operate Ditch Witch/Subsite (Marksman) locators to perform work within fiber optic, underground electrical, natural gas, and water/wastewater projects. The HDD Locator will work directly with the HDD Operator and Laborers to complete assigned tasks and jobs within set deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Operates locating equipment for installation of underground utilities.
  • Familiarity with state dig laws and tolerance zones.
  • Ensure the operator has a clear path and all potential utility conflicts have been identified, notated and a bore path is set.
  • Operate construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Perform secondary locates with utility locators before each bore to ensure marks are accurate.
  • Report inaccuracies to the supervisor
  • Report on near-miss incidents.
  • Report daily production logs.
  • Level earth to final grade specifications.
  • Vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities’ underground facilities.

Horizontal Directional Drilling Laborer

Summary

The HDD Laborer will work directly with the HDD Operator and Locator to perform duties as necessary to complete projects on time.

Responsibilities

  • Performs job site setup and breakdown.
  • Performs utility spotting (potholing) and backfilling.
  • Ensures trucks and trailers are free from debris and trash.
  • Will prepare product for pull back by installing becketts, carrots, or other pulling tooling.
  • Operate vacuums to contain mud and slurries.
  • Operate pressure washer as needed to clean hard surfaces
  • Performs vacuum excavation with both air and water as needed.
  • Assist with requests of the HDD Operator and HDD Locator.
  • Vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities’ underground facilities.
  • Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
  • Perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
